Testing and error diagnosis
Systematic error diagnosis and verification in electrical and automation systems: measurement at the terminal, log analysis and functional testing.
When a plant is down, it is the cause that has to be found, not the symptom. We diagnose faults in electrical and automation systems in the maritime sector and industry, verify the finding by measurement, and only then put it right.
Error diagnosis starts by narrowing things down. We work systematically from symptom to circuit: reading alarms and event logs, measuring at the terminal, following the signal path between sensor, I/O and controller, and separating component faults from configuration faults and faults in the installation itself. We do not replace equipment on suspicion.
We also test plants that have not failed yet. Functional testing of emergency stops and safety circuits, verification measurement of cabling and termination, and checks on the communication between subsystems. A loose termination is cheaper to find alongside the quay than in the middle of a production run.
Fast response time world-wide is part of the service. If the plant or vessel is out of reach for a same-day attendance, we start with remote support to operating personnel or crew, and travel when the case calls for someone standing at the switchboard.

What we do
- Systematic error diagnosis in electrical, automation and control systems
- Measurement and verification at the terminal: continuity, insulation, signal level and earthing
- Analysis of alarms, event logs and operating data before anything is dismantled
- Functional testing of emergency stops, interlocks and safety circuits
- Checks on cabling, termination and communication between subsystems
- Remote support for operating personnel and crew while attendance is arranged
- On-site repair, with parts and documentation of the work carried out
- Written summary of cause, action taken and recommendations when the case is closed

Questions we are often asked
How quickly can you be on site?
The emergency line +47 47 177 177 is staffed 24 hours a day, all year. Our head office is in Horten and we travel world-wide. Realistic attendance time depends on where the plant is: call us and you get a concrete answer straight away, not a standard lead time. In many cases we start with remote support while travel is being arranged.
Can you diagnose faults in systems you did not supply yourselves?
Yes, and that is most of what we do. We do not need to have built the plant in order to find the fault. The job goes faster if drawings, I/O lists and earlier service reports exist, but where documentation is missing we map out what we need as we go.
What does a diagnostic job cost when nobody knows what the fault is?
Error diagnosis is invoiced by time spent and travel. We define the scope before we set off: you get an estimate of hours based on the description of the symptoms, and word from us along the way if the picture changes. If the repair requires parts or work beyond the estimate, that is agreed before we continue.
