Bridge and control systems
Integrated bridge systems, alarm and monitoring systems and control systems on board. Polytronic is an approved service supplier for DNV.
What the work involves
The bridge is where faults are noticed first and tolerated least. The work is therefore as much about locating the cause inside a system assembled from several suppliers as it is about installing new equipment.
Integrated Bridge Systems
We work with integrated bridge systems: navigation and control equipment tied together into a single operating surface. It is precisely that integration that makes fault-finding demanding: the signal may originate in one system while the fault shows up in another. So we follow the signal path end to end instead of replacing units on a hunch.
Alarm and monitoring systems
Monitoring of machinery and technical installations, with alarms presented on the bridge and in the engine control room. We replace sensors and modules, deal with false and recurring alarms, and review alarm configurations that have grown unreadable. An alarm picture nobody trusts any more is, in practice, an alarm picture that has been switched off.
Control systems and consoles
Cabling and cable routes, termination and labelling, console work and panel replacement. The work is planned around yard periods or time alongside the quay, so the vessel is not held up longer than agreed.
Approved service supplier for DNV
Polytronic is an approved service supplier for DNV. For an owner or a yard, the point is that a third party has assessed us, which is not the same as us saying we know our trade. If you need the approval documented for a tender response, we will send it.
Equipment we work with

What we do
- Fault-finding on board: systematically, from the symptom on the bridge to the cause in a cable, sensor or module.
- Installation and replacement of bridge and control equipment, including console work.
- Cabling: cable routes, penetrations, termination and labelling.
- Alarm and monitoring systems: sensors, modules, alarm configuration and follow-up on recurring alarms.
- Automatic identification system (AIS), voyage data recorder (VDR) and autopilot: installation, fault-finding and service.
- Integration between equipment from different suppliers, with end-to-end verification of the signal path.
- Commissioning and functional testing alongside the quay and during sea trials.
- Updated documentation: cable lists, wiring diagrams and a written record of what was actually changed.
- Worldwide service: we travel to the vessel wherever it lies.

Questions we are often asked
Are you approved by a classification society?
Polytronic is an approved service supplier for DNV. In addition we hold R&M freenet Certified Copper Installer for data networks, and we are a registered dealer of Siemens Digital Industries. Those are the three approvals we hold, and we do not claim any others. If the approval has to be documented in a tender response, we will send the documentation on request.
Can you carry out work on board while the vessel is in service?
Yes, as long as the work can be done without taking a system out of service in a way that compromises safety. The scope is always agreed with the master or the technical superintendent first, and any intervention that requires a system to be shut down is scheduled to suit operations. If the vessel is abroad, we travel out.
We do not know which system the fault is in. Can you still help?
That is usually the starting point. A bridge is assembled from equipment supplied by several vendors, and a fault rarely shows up where it originates. We begin by measuring and narrowing down the signal path rather than replacing parts on a hunch: that is both faster and cheaper than swapping units until the fault goes away. Call the emergency line +47 47 177 177 and we will make a first assessment over the phone.

A fault on the bridge or in the control system?
The emergency line is staffed around the clock, all year, and we travel worldwide.
