Electrical engineering
Installations, switchboards and electrical systems for the maritime sector and industry: design, installation, rebuilds and maintenance.
The broad electrical trade: installations, switchboards and systems for the maritime sector and industry. We design, build, rebuild and maintain electrical installations, from a single circuit to complete distribution boards.
Electrical engineering is the bedrock beneath everything else we do. An automation system is no better than the circuit feeding it, the termination carrying the signal, or the switchboard housing it.
We take the installation from design to finished plant: circuit layout and cable routing, assembly of switchboards and distribution boards, termination, labelling and earthing, and the documentation that goes with it. We work just as readily in plants that are already in service: rebuilds, extensions to existing distribution boards, replacement of obsolete equipment and correction of deviations found during inspection.
In industry that means production lines, machine and motor control, power supply and distribution. On board it means distribution boards, cable routes and installation work that withstands vibration, moisture and confined spaces. The trade is the same. The demands on workmanship and documentation are not.
Equipment we work with

What we do
- Design and installation of electrical systems in industry and on board
- Building, rebuilding and extending switchboards and distribution boards
- Circuit layout, cable routing, termination, labelling and earthing
- Motor control, power supply and distribution to production equipment
- Installation of control cabinets, field equipment and sensors
- Replacement of obsolete equipment and correction of deviations after inspection
- Documentation: drawings, circuit schedules and as-built records
- Maintenance and periodic review of existing installations

Questions we are often asked
Do you take small jobs, or only complete systems?
Both. Much of our work consists of defined assignments in plants already in service: a new circuit, an extension to a distribution board, a replacement following an inspection report. We also take the entire electrical scope of a project, covering design, installation and commissioning.
Do you work both ashore and on board?
Yes. Polytronic supplies electrical and automation work to the maritime sector and industry, with a head office in Horten. For maritime assignments we are an approved service supplier by DNV.
Can you take over maintenance of a plant you did not build?
Yes. We start with a review of the plant and its documentation, so that we know what is actually installed before we take responsibility for it. Then we agree on scope and intervals, and the emergency line +47 47 177 177 applies in the meantime.
